【精讲】prefer作动词，意为“宁愿；更喜欢”，相当于better。其后接名词、代词、动词ing形式或动词不定式作宾语。常用结构有：

②意为“喜欢……胜过……”，其中to为介词，prefer和to后接名词、代词或动词ing形式；
③prefer to do sth. rather than do sth.意为“宁愿做某事而不愿做某事”。

【精讲】①by the end of意为“到……结束时；到……为止”，一般指时间，其后接过去的时间时，句子常用过去完成时；其后接现在的时间时，句子常用现在完成时；其后接将来的时间时，句子常用一般将来时。

③in the end意为“最后；终于”，和finally，at last是同义表达。
