2. Teaching Process
In the First and Second Class
Part1: Lead-in
Listen to a classic song from the famous American musical High Society and discuss the following question:
Materialistic posssion and true love, which is much important to the singers?
Part2: Words
Read and listen to some ntences and note down the words related to “having very little money” or “having a lot of money.”
In the Third and Fourth Class
Part1: Pre-reading
Reading tips
  Read the entire passage even if you do not know all the words. Do not to stop to look up unfamiliar words. Focus on the main idea of the whole passage.

Before the third and fourth class, students should preview the reading A.
In class, students will have 10 ms to read it again and complete task A on page 88.
Part 3: Careful Reading
  First, listen to the tape para by para.
  Second, a certain student read one para.
  Third, a certain student translate some ntences which have different expression in Chine.
  Forth, teacher explain the difficult and complex ntences.
Part 4: Language points
(1) appetite

e.g. When she regained consciousness, she was lying on the floor.

(11) tremendous
adj. very big, fast, powerful, etc.

This plan could save us a tremendous amount of money.
(12) wretched
adj. very mirable
This aching tooth makes me feel wretched.
(13) cater for
(also cater to) to provide a particular group of people with the things they need or want
e.g. TV must cater for many different tastes. Vegetarians are well catered for.
(14) in vain
without success in spite of your efforts
e.g. Altman swore that his son’s death would not be in vain. Their efforts were not in vain.
(15) roll in
to happen or arrive in large numbers or quantities

(16) stretch out

Part 5: Sentence structure
(1) Children, boys, youth, gents, ladies, artisans, professional men, even kings and peers, are catered for; but the millionaire’s custom is evidently not worth having: there are too few of him. (Para. 2)

Part 6: Exerci
  After the class, the students should complete exercis about vocabularies and phras from page 89 to page 90 before the next class. And in the third class, teacher will ask some students to tell answers to all class.
In the Fifth and Sixth Class
Part 1: Grammer
Teacher will explain this grammar again and expand knowledge about adverbial clau.
Then, ask students to give answers of exerci on page 92 and 93 and teacher re日语发音-correct them.
Part 2: Vocabulary Building
First, watch a video about intensifying adverbs, which come from a native English teacher.
Second, students need to summarize information about intensifying .
Third, ask students to give answers of exerci on page 94 and teacher re-correct them.
In the Seventh and Eighth Class
Part 1:Prentation
Group 5: Crisis intervention How to become a millionaire
Students of Group 5 should prepare prentation under the title of Crisis intervention How to become a millionaire before class and show it in this class. The time is 15 minutes.
Part 2:Culture tips
Teacher and students read the small article about dreams on ancient cultures on page 103 together and enjoy it.
Part 3:Questions and Answers
Students review this unit and ask question if they have, and the teacher answers the questions.
In the next class, there will be words dictation.

1. 本篇课文选自著名文学家萧伯纳的作品。该作品语言优美,思想深刻,通篇采用了反讽的手法,是难得的学习材料。虽然课前向同学们深入地介绍了萧伯纳,并要求同学们预习。但是,对于商英专科的同学们来说,这篇文章词汇高级、语法结构复杂,阅读难度较大。虽然老师进行了逐句讲解,但可能仍会存在因无法克服学习难度而无法实现良好学习效果的同学,因此,老师建议学生对本篇文章反复阅读,甚至可以背诵。
2. 本课的语法内容非常简单,是讲for和becau的区别,但这两者的区别几句话便可以讲清楚,所以可以由点到面,系统向同学们讲解状语从句。
3. 本课的词法知识点与上节课相关,这两课的词法知识点系统性不强,重点在于培养学生副词和动词搭配记忆的思维,老师结合教学视频帮助学生梳理了词汇。
4. 本课的culture tip内容拓展性适中,但一些同学的prentation仅仅是局限于课文,趣味性较差。
