This year is the 21st anniversary of China’s entry into the WTO. On Dec 11, 2001, China formally became the WTO’s 143rd member. The WTO is a global trade organization, which deals with rules of trade between nations. In the WTO, agreements are made on trade between countries. The goal is to help countries do business effectively and fairly.
Joining the WTO meant China needed to follow global trade rules while opening up its market to the world, said Long Yongtu, China’s former chief negotiator (首席谈判代表) for WTO entry.
