Are we alone here?
Are we alone in the univer (宇宙)? Is there life beyond Earth? We have long been interested in the questions and have never stopped looking for an answer.韩语语音
On April 28, China’s radio telescope (射电望远镜) FAST, nicknamed (昵称) “Eye of Heaven (天眼)”, began to look for alien (外星的) life.
Radio telescopes can find signals (信号) from space. On Earth, our TVs and radios give out signals. Scientists believe that if aliens do exist, their technology would also give out signals like ours does.
Many radio telescopes around the world are being ud to look for aliens. In 1977, for example, the Big Ear radio telescope in the US found a strong 72-cond signal from space. Many people believe it may have come from intelligent (智慧的) life, but this is still a mystery (未解之谜).
FAST is the world’s largest and most nsitive (灵敏的) radio telescope. It can find even the weakest signals from space. Scientists are excited about what it might find in the future.
How el have we tried to find them?
Apart from using radio telescopes to scan (扫描) the sky, scientists have also tried using other technologies to contact (联络) aliens.
Sending out messages哈利波特全集>大学生素质拓展
In 1977, NASA nt the Voyager 1 and 2 probes (探测器) into space. Each carried a copy of the Golden Record, which has pictures and sounds from Earth. If life forms (生物) on other planets find them, they can learn about humans. Voyager 1 is now 22.2 billion (十亿) km away from us and is still working. It has traveled farther (更远的) into space than any other man-made object.
Scientists have also nt veral radio messages into space. In 2008, for example, NASA beamed (发射) a song – The Beatles’ Across the Univer – directly into deep space. They hope the song can reach aliens.
Using space telescopes
Unlike radio telescopes on Earth, space telescopes are nt into space for rearch. The
Kepler Space Telescope was ud by the US to look for Earth-like planets. Kepler was launched (发射) in 2009 and stopped working in 2018. It found more than 1,200 exoplanets (系外行星). Many of them are rocky (多岩石的) planets like Earth, which means they might have life.
In 2018, NASA launched another space telescope called TESS to continue Kepler’s mission (任务). It will explore an area 400 times larger than Kepler did.
Should we arch for them?
Although finding aliens might sound exciting, some scientists think that we should not contact aliens. For example, the late British scientist Stephen Hawking believed that aliens are dangerous. If they find us, they might take resources from Earth. That would be very bad for us. What do you think?
Choo the answer:
1. How can we arch for alien life?
A. By using radio telescopes to find signals from space.
B. By using TVs and radios to nd out signals.
C. By nding people into space to look for aliens.
D. By making phone calls to talk with aliens.
2. What do we know about China’s radio telescope?
A. Its nickname is Fast.
B. It started working in April last year.
C. It is the world’s biggest radio telescope.
D. It found a strong 72-cond signal from space.
3. The Voyager 1 probe _____.
A. carried gold into space
B. is still working
C. made a song for aliens
D. landed on another planet
4. Different from Kepler, TESS _____.
A. can explore a larger area
B. has finished its work
C. works on an Earth-like planet
D. found more exoplanets

hirstStay safe while eating
During the novel coronavirus(新冠肺炎) outbreak, we wear masks to keep us safe. But many of you might have faced a problem – you can’t eat when you wear a mask. Now an Israeli (以色列的) company has invented a solution – a mask that you can wear while eating.
The mask has a remote-control (遥控的) mouth. You just need to squeeze (挤压) a lever to open a slot (狭槽) in the front of the mask so that food can pass through. When you take out your eating utensil (餐具), it will clo.
The company said the mask can protect people from the virus while they eat. It plans to start lling the mask in the coming months at a price of 6 to 20 yuan higher than that of
a regular medical mask.
People have different opinions about the mask. Ofir Hameiri, 32, told Reuters that it is a must-have becau it allows him to eat while staying safe. But Ron Silberstein, 29, thinks it won’t work when he eats ice cream. He wouldn’t want to wear it becau the mask will get messy (脏的). But it is fine for solid (固体的) foods like meat.
