This lesson is to introduce the knowledge of the fabric inspection.

A. The method of penalty scores

Normally we will not u the AQL to asss the quality of fabric, we u the 4 point system to score the defects on fabric for fabric inspection.

The 4 point system provided a means of defining the defects according to the verity by assigning demerits and penalty points. All fabrics including the grey and finished, woven and knitting, can be grading by this system. Visible defects were scored in proportion to the size of the defects.

Penalty point, Defects in any direction, with the exception of specify, are scored as followings:

Defects size	Penalty points
Defects≤3 inches	1
3inches＜Defects≤6inches	2
6inches＜Defects≤9inches	3
Defects＞9inches	4

Note: No single Yard or single defects can be scored more than 4 points;

Defects like holes, netting, dropped stitches, laddering and torn lvage are scored 4 points regardless of the defects size;

B. The sampling size

If not specified, the sampling size will follow below:

> 10000yards	(Square root of lot size) X 10

C. Acceptable points by fabric groups

-- Woven fabric:

D. Second quality criteria

1. The whole shipment would be Failed as below (any one):

1.1 If the Penalty points per shipment over requirement.

1.2 If the cond quality percentage over 10%.

1.3 The total measured inspected length was more than +/ - 1% against the ticket length.

1.4 Any inspected roll’s design/pattern/ construction was not conformed to description on order or approved color swatch.

2. The individual roll would be considered as first quality (A grade) but the whole shipment would be pending, and no need to assign

penalty points to below defect:

Hand feel	Roll that do not match the approved sample
Odor & Mildew	Roll that exhibit odor or mildew
Weight	+/- 5%
Weight	Samples size: 2 different rolls per color
Shade evaluation	Roll that is lighter or darker against the approved sample with Grey Scale 4

3. The individual roll would be considered as cond quality (B grade) and no need to assign penalty points to below defect:

Shade evaluation	Roll that is outside of the 4 Grey scale against the approved sample
Shade continuity	Roll that is outside of the 4-5 Grey scale within one roll
Length	Roll that measures 2% less or 5% more than the roll ticket
Cuttable Width	1” wider for woven fabrics 2” wider for knit or stretched woven fabrics No tolerance for Narrow width (Noted: Measure at Beginning, Middle and End of the fabric)
Bowing	For woven & knits: +/- 2% for print or checked, +/- 3% fro solid
Skewing	For woven: +/-2% for print or checked, +/- 3% for solid
Poor lvage	Rolls exhibits a notices degree of lo or tightness along either or both lvedges, or ripples, puckers, folds or crea in the body of fabric that would prevent the fabric from lying flat when being spread in a conventional manner.

4. The Individual roll would be considered as cond quality (B grade) and assigned penalty points:

Splices	Minimum splice length of 30yards for all fabrics
Splices	No rolls shall be accepted containing more than one splice of two joined pieces
Full width defect	Defect running over 9”/230mm
Full width defect	Defect in the first or last three yards

5. The individual roll would be considered as cond quality (B grade) and need not count penalty points:

Running Defect	Defect running/repeating over 9”/230mm
	Defect running/repeating through more than 10 continuous yards( Noted: Less than 50yards shall be rejected at more than 3 continuous yards)
	Running defects: Dye streak, barrel, needle line, etc.
