You may not know it,but your brain is already an amazing vocabulary learning machine. When you read or listen to something, your brain doesn’t take each word at face value:it’s continuously taking statistics about which words appear together regularly so that it can expect what’s coming next and process speech faster.
Our brains continuously relea electrical signals, which change depending on what task your brain is dealing with.Scientists can u a technique to read some of the to study how your brain process language.
One of the signals, called N400,changes depending on whether words make n in context or not.The N400is relatively small for expected word combinations, like coffee and cream, and increas in height for unexpected word combinations, like coffee and cap. This means that scientists can read t
he N400height to analyze the kind of expectations you have about which words usually appear together.
In language learners, the N400changes bad on proficiency(熟练程度).The better people get at
a language, the clor their N400pattern is to native speaker’s.This means that an important part of language proficiency is taking statistics and building expectations about what words usually appear together, just as native speakers do.
To get better at this,we need to flood our brains with loads of natural content,so we can build up a picture of which kinds of words usually appear together.Reading is a great way to do this and there’s lots of rearch that shows that reading works wonders for your vocabulary skills.
However,it is important to remember that if there are too many unknown words,it can be difficult to figure out what they mean from the context. And it is unpleasant having to stop every two minutes to look up a word.Graded readers, which are books adapted to make them easier to understand at lower levels, are perfect for learners of foreign languages.
28.What does the author intend to do in paragraph1?
A.To state a fact.
B.To offer a suggestion.
C.To make a comparison.
D.To propo a definition.
29.What does it mean if the N400increas?
A.We make n of some word combinations in a context.
B.We combine some new words to make a ntence.
C.We memorize some word combinations to learn a language.
D.We meet some word combinations beyond our expectations.
30.How can we have a native speaker-like N400pattern according to the author?
A.By reading some books about vocabulary skills.
B.By reading lots of natural content.
C.By reading loads of books about nature and drawing pictures.
D.By reading authentic content to increa our vocabulary.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.It is more beneficial to read easy books.
B.It is important to look up new words.
C.We should mainly read adapted books.
D.We should choo materials right for our level.

Video calls are a common occurrence, but have you imagined being able to touch the person on the other end of the line?Scientists are making this a reality.
Rearchers at the University of New South Wales Australia, have invented a soft skin stretch device(SSD),a haptic(触觉的)device that can recreate the n of touch.Haptic technology imitates the experience of touch by stimulating localized areas of the skin in ways that are similar to what is felt in the real world, through force, vibration or motion.
Vibration is the most common haptic technology today and has been built into many electronic devices, such as one attached to the back of a trackpad in laptops, which simulates a button clicking. However, haptic feedback with vibration becomes less nsitive when ud continuously. The existing technology also has great difficulty recreating the n of touch with objects in virtual environments or located remotely according to Mai Thanh Thai, lead author of the study.
The new technology overcomes issues with existing haptic devices. The rearch team introduced a novel method to recreate the n of touch through soft, artificial“muscles”.
“Our three-way directional skin stretch device, built into the fingertips of the wearable haptic glove we also created,is like wearing a cond skin---it's soft, stretchable and mimics the n of touch---and will enable new forms of haptic communication to enhance everyday activities,"said Thanh Nho Do,nior author of the study.
It works like this:Imagine you are at home and you call your friend who is in Australia. You wear a haptic glove with the SSDs and your friend also wears a glove with integrated3D force nsors. If your friend picks up an object,it will physically press against your friend's fingers. And the glove with3D force nsors will measure the interactions. The force signals can be nt to your glove so your device will generate the same3D forces, making you experience the same n of touch as your friend.
The haptic devices could be applied in various scenes, allowing urs to feel objects inside a
virtual world or at a distance. This could be especially beneficial during such times like the COVID-19pandemic when people rely on video calls to stay connected with loved ones.Or it could be ud in medical practices.Doctors can feel a patient's organ tissues with surgical(手术的)tools without touching them.
32.What can we learn about the SSD?
A.It imitates the n of touch through animal skin.
B.It mainly us vibration technology.
C.It makes virtual haptic communication possible.
D.It takes the shape of a glove.
33.What does the last but one paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The advantages of the new haptic glove.
B.An explanation of how the haptic device works.
C.The applications of the new haptic technology.
D.A personal experience of using SSDs during a video call.
34.According to the author,in which of the following situation could the new haptic device benefit
people?
A.Interviewing someone face to face.
B.Recreating organ tissues.
C.Evaluating surgeries from a distance.
D.Feeling a silk scarf being sold online.
35.What's the main purpo of the text?
A.To encourage the u of a new product.
B.To introduce the development of haptic technology.
C.To compare different haptic devices.
D.To inform readers of a new invention.
