I received a call today asking if I would be willing to bring food to a family in need. The mother was having a major operation and would be lying down for veral weeks. Of cour, I responded with an immediate "Yes!". As I planned the meal in my head, I thought of how many times over the years I had been asked to prepare food. I have done so countless times with a very open heart.
But the truly amazing thing is that I have received double over the cour of my life. When my mother died, our hou was filled with fresh dinners for weeks. A woman from the church of our community stopped by each evening with some food. The gift of food was her small way of trying to ea our pain.
Later in my life, when I was on bed resting during my pregnancy (怀孕) with twins, women of the church again stepped in to help. They arranged babysitting for my two-year-old daughter, and brought lovely dinners to our hou. Even when I was put in the hospital, my husband would bring cooked meals to my hospital room. How we relied on the dinners to feed my tired husband and young daughter!

We live in a world of things. I realized this when I left my job after 17 years. I carried the contents of my office home in three garbage bags. Every time I tried to sort through tho bags to get rid of any of it, I was afraid I would need this or that later. And that was just three bags of paper!
How would I ever sort through all the other things cluttering(乱堆放) my home and my life? It’s a question that has long been asked by most Americans. Thanks to an abundance of cheap goods, instant credit, and constant exposure to the powers of advertising, acquiring has in itlf become a national pastime(消遣).“We’ve begun to buy and hold on to so many items that we’re now having to acquire more and more space to
accommodate our clutter,” says Dr. David Kantra, a psychologist in Fairhope, Alabama. And accumulating goods is viewed as the road to happiness.
