Hydrogen is regarded as the real substitute for fossil fuels in the future becau of its highest mass-specific energy density and zero carbon dioxide emission. Most of Pt-like catalysts only show their best performance in acidic solutions, and the HER rate in acidic media is usually about 2-3 orders of magnitude higher than that in alkaline media. To best of our knowledge, the best catalysts for another half reaction (oxygen evolution reaction) of water splitting always work efficiently in alkaline or neutral solutions. In this regard, it is highly challenging to developed Pt-like electrocatalysts for H ER in all pH electrolytic media.

Density functional theory calculations suggest that the strong covalent interactions between Ru SA and N sites on the Ti3C2T x MXene support contribute to the exceptional catalytic performance and stability.
