what do you think are the factors that have helped americans form such a belief? should chine people welcome individualism?
the belief in individualism is a basic part of american character. and from the text which we have learned from unit 2, we know that this belief has at least two parate parts, idealism and materialism.
as far as i am concerned, it is a long time to form such a belief, and it is associated with american history.as we all know, america was a colony of britain for a long time.during this time; americans lived a hard life under the pressure of british. under the circumstances, every american was eager to be independent and have freedom.also, the desire of individualism was a basic value of the new nation in 1776, which we can e from the declaration of independence, we hold the truths to be lf-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, which among the are life, liberty and the p
ursuit of happiness.
in addition, americans come in all different colors and nationalities; they practice different religions and live many different lifestyles. just as what we say about salad bowl or melting pot. america needs to accept the differences, so that the belief in individualism is significant.
