26.1 Collocation of prepositions with adjectives,
        verbs and nouns
1) Prepositions after adjectives   
  (1) Some adjectives can only be followed by specific
glen
prepositions:
e.g.: Don’t be afraid of difficulties.         I’m not accustomed to the cold.        He was abnt from the meeting.
be anxious about, be ashamed of, be aware of, be blind to, be busy with, be capable of, be characteristic of, be conscious of, be content with, be crazy about, be famous for, be dependent on, be fatal to, be fit for, be fond of, be equal to, be full of, be keen on, be late for, be loyal tobe nervous about, be proud of, be ready for, be rude to, be short of, be similar to, be tired of, be sure of, be rich

  (2) e.g.: I was angry at John’s remark. (事生气)        I was angry with John. (人生气)      be grateful to sb. for sth.
    (3) Some adjectives can collocate with different prepo-
sitions to express different meanings.

  2) Prepositions after verbs   
    a) Verb + preposition: account for, aim at, approve of, arrange for, believe in, burst into, come by, count on, go over, focus on, head for, insist on, listen to, long for, look into, look after, mock at, participate in, persist in, refer to, arch for, nd for, wait on, arrive at, boast of, complain about, differ from, lead to, play with, take over, wait on …    Some verbs combined with different repositions de- note different meanings:
    consist of  组成    consist in 在于    deal with    论及        deal in    售卖    result from 由于        result in  导致    stand by    支持        stand for  代替
b) Verb + object + preposition
    accu…of      blame…for          charge…with    coax…into        compare…with  convict…of    cure…of          deprive…of        devote…to

    It should be noticed that the combinations are
different from such multi-word verbs as catch hold of,
catch sight of, find fault with, give ri to, get hold of, have a look at, lay emphasis on, lay hands on, make too much of, lo track of, lo sight of, make a fool
of, make a fuss about, make a mess of, make an example of, make friends with, make fun of, make room for, make u of, play a joke on, take advantage of, pay attention to, say goodbye to, put an end to, take advantage of, take care of, take charge of, take interest in, take note of, take notice of, take part in, take pride in, take the place of, etc.
c) Verb + adverb particle + preposition
        break away from        catch up with          come up to            come up with        do away with        face up to      get down to            get on with          go in for            keep away from    look back upon        look down upon/on      look forward to        look out for        make up for            stand up to                    talk down to     
    Jack has come down with a bad cold    Mr. Smith is looked up to by all his students
    I couldn’t put up with the noi any longer.
  d) Verb + object + adverb particle+ preposition
    bring sb. along to a place    带某人去某处    bring sb. back to life          使某人起死回生      bring sth. round to sth.    (话题mcx)引到某物上
e) Verb + (object +) preposition + noun
这类短语动词和上面所讲的动词+名词+介词结构不同。这类短语动词中介词+名词是固定搭配,其中的名词不可随意更换。常见的这类短语动词有:
    bear sth. in mind (记住某事)    put sth. into practice (将某事付诸实施)
    take sth. into account / consideration (考虑某事)    come to a conclusion / decision (得出结论/做出决定)    come to light (显露出来)    come into existence / being (开始存在; 维基百科 英文形成)    come into effect / u (生效; 开始使用)
    come into view / sight (gvmt出现; 映入眼帘)    come into office / power (就职; 上台执政)    ke
