Title：Interpretation of the “Chine Images” in the Vietnam War Novel The Sympathizer by Vietname American Writer Viet Thanh Nguyen
Abstract: The Vietnam War literature is an important literary genre in American literature. In the Western people’s eyes, the Vietnam War literature keeps the memory about the Vietnam War in American people’s heart, reflecting the impact of the Vietnam War on various aspects of American society. The Vietname American writer Viet Thanh Nguyen won the 100th Pulitzer Prize for Fiction with his debut novel The Sympathizer in 2016. The biggest difference between the novel and other Vietnam War novels is that it tells the lives of the Vietname refugees in the Vietnam War. At the same time, the “Chine Images”, reprented by the Chine, are mentioned many times. This paper analyzes in detail the changes of the characteristics of the “Chine Images” and their connotations in the novel, so as to deepen the Chine readers’ understanding of the “Chine Images” in the Vietnam War literature, and enlighten the Chine readers to pay greater attention to society, history and culture behind the characters in the novel.
