letter at the beginning of term, but in the period
since then we have submitted a number of exam
papers to be re-marked and many of them have
been returned with higher grades. As a result, some

There are unlikely to be any further changes now,
so the final scores are as follows:

5A*-C including Eng and Mat 63%
English A*-C 74%
3 levels of progress: English 69%

Congratulations again to all of the students who

e so many of them returning to Year 12 and making
a very positive start in the Sixth Form, and we also
now know that almost every student from the year
group is now successfully place in either further

Progress checks will be issued to all year groups in
November (for Years 9-13 on the 11th and Years 7/8
on the 25th). Parents of students in Years 7 to 10 will
e the new system of progress grades 9-1, which are
replacing the familiar A*-G at GCSE, being ud for
the first time. There is a phad introduction of the
new style of exam asssment, so the changes affect
different year groups in different ways. For
clarification, plea check the more detailed
explanation in the letter about asssment which was
nt out to all parents last month. This letter also
provides some guidance about students’ u of green
pen for “upgrade marking”, and there is a copy
available on the school website for anyone who
needs it.
We are increasingly concerned about the safety of
students who come to school along Thoresby Road,
at the start and end of the school day as they enter
and leave the site. Despite a number of requests for
parents to avoid driving into school to drop off and
pick up, there is still a significant number of cars
coming on to the site unnecessarily at the times,
causing congestion whilst veral hundred students
are cycling or walking through the main gates. If you
bring your child to school by car, plea ensure that
you find somewhere off the school site where it is
possible to drop them off and turn around safely.
There will be checks taking place on cars entering the
site after half term in a further attempt to reduce this
dangerous problem. We would also appreciate the
support of parents in emphasising to students the
need to obey the Highway Code when cycling to and
from school, and to encourage strongly that cycle
helmets are worn at all times. Thank you.
Whilst we appreciate the difficulties that some families have with this issue, we feel that any unnecessary time taken off school, especially during Key Stage 4, places at risk your child’s chances of success. In line with County and National recommendations, we will only authori holiday abnce in exceptional circumstances.
Plea could we ask you again to consider very carefully the conquences of taking time off before any holidays are arranged during school time. We would like to thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Congratulations to Year 7 who have made a fantastic start to the year. There have been thousands of VIVO’s awarded already and we are only in the first term!
There are lots of events to look forward to before Christmas, but the main event is definitely the Lea Green trip in November. This is always a memorable occasion that both staff and students enjoy. We hope you are all looking forward to it as much as we are!
Keep up the good work Year 7!
Did you know you that you can train to teach with us? We are offering places on our PGCE School Direct cours to start in September 2016. The cour is run in collaboration with the University of Derby and has an excellent reputation. Through our alliance, we are able to place trainees in five local schools and can offer a range subjects, many of which have bursaries attached.整理英语

The Long Eaton School Environmental Science GCSE group continue to monitor the growth of Lichens at Long Eaton Cemetery as evidence to show that our air is getting cleaner. Our local power station burns coal which contains sulphur that is relead during combustion. Ever since Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station introduced the FGD (Flue gas Desulphurisation plant) in 1998, the air has been getting less polluted with Sulphur dioxide gas. We can find evidence of this on gravestones. Only grey lichen groups ud to grow there, but since 2000 we have en the growth of orange lichen groups which signify that the air is cleaner and there is less sulphur dioxide gas coming out of the tall flue chimney.
Lichens are an important pollution indicator so this is good news for our lungs. Once E.ON have installed the new NOx catalytic converter, the air will be even cleaner.
