过去进行时与一般过去时

过去进行时，是表示过去某个具体时刻正在进行的事情或动作。

结构：was/were+doing(现在分词）

过去进行时表示过去某段时间内持续进行的动作或者事情。常用的时间状语

thismorning,thewholemorning,alldayyesterday,fromninetotenlastevening,when,while

例：WewerewatchingTVfromventoninelastnight.昨天晚上七点到九点的时候我们在看电视。

WhatwasherearchingalldaylastSunday?上周日他一整天都在研究什么？

Mybrotherfellwhilehewasridinghisbicycleandhurthimlf.我哥哥骑自行车的时候从车上摔下来，受

伤了。Itwasrainingwhentheyleftthestation.他们离开车站的时候天正在下雨。

WhenIgottothetopofthemountain,thesunwasshining.当我到达山顶的时候，阳光灿烂。

2.过去进行时可以表示在过去某个时间点发生的事情。时间点可以用介词短语、副词或从句来表示。

如：Whatwasshedoingatnineo'clockyesterday?昨天晚上九点她在做什么？(介词短语表示时间点)

WhenIsawhimhewasdecoratinghisroom.当我看见他的时候他正在装饰房间。(when从句表示时间点)

3.在复合句中，如果主要动作和背景动作都是延续的或同时发生的，那么主从句的动词都可用过去进

行时。例如：Whilehewaswaitingforthebus,hewasreadinganewspaper.他边等车边看报。(两个动作

都是延续的)HewascleaninghiscarwhileIwascooking.他擦车时我在做饭。(两个动作同时进行)

4.通常不能用于过去进行时的动词主要有：agree,be,believe,belong,care,forget,hate,have(拥

有),hear,know,like,love,mean,mind,notice,own,remember,em,suppo,understand,want,wish等。

误：Iwasknowingtheanswer.正：Iknewtheanswer.我知道答案。

误：Iwasn'tunderstandinghim.正：Ididn'tunderstandhim.我不明白他的意思。

3、英语中有四类动词一般不用进行时（不用现在进行时和过去进行时）

1)表心理状态、情感的动词，如love,hate,like,care,respect,plea,prefer,know等

2)表存在、状态的动词，如appear,exist,lie,remain,stand,em等

3)表感觉的动词，如e,hear,feel,smell,sound,taste等.

4)表一时性的动词，如accept,allow,admit,decide,end,refu,permit,promi等。

一般过去时

(1)表示过去发生的动作或存在的状态，常与表示过去时间的副词yesterday,theotherday,lastweek

(year,night,month…),in1989,twohoursago,justnow等连用，Wemovedherefiveyearsago.我

们五年前搬到这里。Juliacaughtabadcoldyesterday.朱丽亚昨天得了重感冒。

有些句子，虽然没有表示过去确定时间的状语，但实际上是指过去发生的动作或存在的状态，也需要

用一般过去时，如：Ididn’tknowyouwereinParis.我不知道你在巴黎。(说话时“我”已经知道“你”

在巴黎了，这句话指的是说话之前的状态，应该用过去时表示)

(2)表示过去一段时间经常或反复发生的动作。这时可与频度副词often,usually,always等连用，

WhenIwasachildweoftenwenttotheasideinAugust.在我小的时候，我们经常在八月份去海边。

Thechildrenoftenswaminthisriverbeforethefactorywasbuilthere.在这里修建了这座工厂之前，孩子们

经常在这条河中游泳。

(3)表示过去经常发生的动作、过去的习惯等，也可用udto/would+动词原形(其中udto表示

“过去经常，而今不再”)，Iudtoreadnewspapersafterbreakfast.我以前经常在早餐后读报纸。

Marywouldstayathomeandreadabookwheneveritrained.(以前)每当下雨时，玛丽就会呆在家中看书。

(4)want,hope,wish,wonder,think等动词可用一般过去时表示现在的一种委婉的语气或一种试探性的态

度Iwantedtoaskyouifyoucouldhelpme.我想问你是否能帮助我。

Wewishedyoucouldgoforapicnicwithus.我们希望你能跟我们一起去野餐。

(5)情态动词的过去式，如could,would,should,might等可用于现在或将来，表示一种委婉的语气，

Wouldyoulikeaglassofbeer?想要一杯啤酒吗？ShouldIcallhimtonight?我应该今晚给他打电话吗？

Ithinkitmightrainsoon.我认为可能会下雨。

(6)有些时候，从句的动作不一定表示过去，但为了与主句的谓语动词在时态上保持一致，也会使用一

般过去时Mycretarysaidthatshewouldletmeknowassoonasshegottheinformation.

我的秘书说，她得到消息后马上就会让我知道。

(7)用在wouldrather,wish后面的从句中(虚拟语气)，表示与现在的事实相反的情况，如

IwishIhadabettermemory.真希望我的记性能好一点。I’dratheryoucametomorrow.我宁愿你明天来。
