1.1Inparallelwiththe"PublicRanking"telephonesurvey,POPwascommissionedbyMedia

thethirdtimetoconductthislocalschoolprincipalsurvey

whichaimedtostudytheirperceptiontowardstheinstitutionsofhighereducationinHong

Kong.

1.2POPwasresponsiblefordesigningthequestionnaire,inputtingandprocessingthedata

responsibleforallothersurveylogisticssuch

asobtainingthecontactlistofschoolsfromthedatabaofEducationBureau(i.e.483valid

address),printingandmailingoutthequestionnaires,followingupwithchars,aswell

of7keyquestionswereaskedinthisyear’s

questionnaire,whichisattachedinAppendixA.

1.3POPwasnotinvolvednorconsultedonhowtomakeuofthefindingsfromthisprincipal

sthesoleresponsibility

acollectionperiodstartedfrom1Juneandendedon17

June,tthem,112cas

ponrateofthissurveywas23.2%,withastandarderrorof

samplingofnomorethan4.1%,haditbeenareprentativesurvey(Table1).

fall,allrespondentswereaskedto

evaluateeachofthe9institutionsbadontheirperceptionofitsoverallperformanceusing

ascaleof0-10,with0reprentingtheworst,10reprentingthebestand5beinghalf-half.

Respondentsweresuggestedtotakeintoaccounttheinstitution’slocalandinternational

reputation,facilities,campunvironment,qualificationofitsteachingstaff,academic

rearchperformance,conductandqualityofitsstudents,itslearningatmosphere,aswell

resultsindicatedthat,

intermsofprincipals’perception,HKUreceivedthehighestmeanscoreof8.37asratedby

109respondents,CUHKcamecondwithanaveragescoreof8.23ratedby109

respondents,whereasHKUSTrankedthirdwithameanscoreof7.74ratedby109

respondents(Table2).
