amongthemountains,hencethename.Thehikerscanchoo
totakealefttoSunriPeak,afineplacetoenjoythe
viewofthesunriinearlymorning(whichwouldinvolve
climbingthemountaininthedarkasthereisnowheretostay
onthemountain)。
AlternativelyvisitorscouldtakearighttoLotusP
eak.HuashanmeansFlowerMountain,anditgotthename
fromLotusPeak,whichremblesabeautifullyblooming
lotusflower.Finallythereisagondolawhichtakes
visitorsacroasteepvalleytoLandingWildGooPeak,
thehighestamongthefivesummits.Thepathtothesummit
ischaracterizedbysteeprockfaces,withobstacles

elestialMastersreceivedrevelationsthere,asdidChen
Tuan(920⑼89),wholivedonthemountainpriortoreceiving
immortality.Inthe1230s,allthetemplesonthemountain
cameundercontroloftheDaoistQuanzhenSchool.In
1998,themanagementcommitteeofHuashanagreedtoturn
overmostofthemountain'stemplestotheChinaDaoistA
ssociation.Thiswasdonetohelpprotecttheenvironment,

aroundit.WalkingthroughtheWuyouPavilion,theLong

reminderforthowhowishtostoptheirtouratthispoint.
Besidetherockaretheprecipitous370rockstepscalled'
QianchiZhuang'consideredtobetheprimarybreath-taking
pathofMt.Huashan.Whenclimbing,onlyagleamofsky

Acrossthe'QianchiZhuang'aretwosimilar
precipitouspaths-respectivelycalled'BaichiXia'and'
LaojunLi'abovewhichclimbersreachMt.Huashan'sN
orthPeak.ThereareprecipitouscliffsonallsidesofN
orthPeak,makingitlooklikeaflatterraceintheclouds,
hencethenameCloudTerracePeak.Itis1,614meters
(about5,295feet)high.Threesidesarecliffsandone
sideistothe'Ca'er(theearrubbingthecliff)Cliff'
whichisthefourthprecipitouspathwheretouristscanclimb

ofNorthPeaktreesareluxuriantlygreen,creatingagood
restspot.

Whenclimbingoverthe'BlueDragonRange',regarded
asthemust-passwaytotheotherfourpeaksfromNorthP
eak,travelersarriveatGoldLockPass.Mt.Huashan
visitorsknowthatitiscustomarytobuyagoldenlock,and
thenlockitintheironchainsonbothsidesoftheGold

photosite.Thishugelockcanonlybeopenedbythrowing
