1.0PURPOSE

ThepurpoofthisstandardistodefinetheminimumrequirementsforDanger,

CautiontagsandSafetyinstructionssigns.

2.0SCOPE

ThestandardcoverstheDanger,CautiontagsandSafetyinstructionssignsthatare

udwithinSABICandit’sAffiliatesfacilities.

3.0DEFINITIONS

3.1Accidentpreventiontags:Tagsthatareudasatemporarymeansof

warningemployeesofanexistinghazard,suchasdefectivetools,defective

equipment,conditionofisolationvalvetc.

3.2CautionSign:Fixedsignsthatareinstalledatplaceswhereitisrequiredto

warnagainstpotentialhazardsortocautionagainstunsafepractices.

3.3Cautiontag:Tagsthataretemporarilyudonlytowarnagainstpotential

hazardsandtocautionthatspecialproceduresmustbefollowed.

3.4DangerSigns:Fixedsignsthatareinstalledatplaceswhereanimmediate

hazard/dangerexistssuchassubstations,transformers,etc.

3.5Dangertags:Tagsthataretemporarilyudwhereanimmediatehazard

exists.

3.6DoNotOperateTags:Tagsthataretemporarilyudontoolsorequipment

thataredefectiveandshouldnotbeud.

3.7SafetyInstructionalsigns:ThearefixedsignsudtoprovideSafety

instructions.

3.8Shall:Signifiesmandatoryrequirements.

3.9Should:Signifiesrecommended/optionalrequirements.

4.0REQUIREMENTS

SABICanditsAffiliatesshalldevelopproceduresandprogramsthatmeetsthe

followingrequirementsonDanger,CautiontagsandSafetyinstructionssigns.

SABICIndustrialSecurityshallbeconsultedforanyclarificationtothisstandard.

TheclarificationgivenbySABICIndustrialSecurityshallbecompliedwithand

consideredfinal.

4.1DangerSigns:

4.1.1TheDangersignsshallbeinstalledatplaceswhereanimmediate

hazardexists.

4.1.2ThesignwordsshallbeinEnglishandArabicandshallbereadable

ataminimumdistanceof1.52metersorsuchgreaterdistanceas

warrantedbythehazard.

4.1.3Dangersignsshallhaveredasthepredominatingcolorforthe

upperpanel,blackoutlineonthebordersandawhitelowerpanel

foradditionalsignwording(RefertoAttachment–1).

4.2CautionSigns:

4.2.1Cautionsignsshallbeinstalledatplaceswhereitisrequiredtowarn

againstpotentialhazardsortocautionagainstunsafepractices.

4.2.2ThesignwordsshallbeinEnglishandArabicandshallbereadable

ataminimumdistanceof1.52metersorsuchgreaterdistanceas

warrantedbythehazard.

4.2.3Cautionsignsshallhaveyellowasthepredominatingcolor,black

upperpanelandborders,yellowletteringof“caution”ontheblack

panel,

wordingshallbeudforadditionalwording(RefertoAttachment–

1).

4.3SafetyInstructionalSigns:

4.3.1Safetyinstructionalsignsshallbeinstalledatplaceswhere

permanentSafetyrequirementneedtobeinstalledsuchasSafety

rules,PersonnelProtectiveEquipmentrequired,etc.

4.3.2ThesignwordsshallbeinEnglishandArabicandshallbereadable

ataminimumdistanceof1.52metersorsuchgreaterdistanceas

warrantedbythehazard.

4.3.3Safetyinstructionalsignsshallbewhitewithgreenupperpanelwith

itional

wordingonthesignshallbeblacklettersonthewhitebackground.

4.4Accidentpreventiontags:

4.4.1Accidentpreventiontagsshallbeudasatemporarymeansof

warningemployeesofanexistinghazard,suchasdefectivetools,

ntpreventiontagssuchasDoNotOperatetag,

DangertagandCautiontagshallbedevelopedandmadeavailable

totheproduction/operationsdepartmentemployees.

4.4.2Thetagsshallhaveaholeonthetoptorunathreadthatshallbe

udtotiethetagwiththeequipment.

4.4.3Thetagsandthethreadshouldbemadeofweatherresistant

material.

4.4.4“DoNotOperateTag”shallbewhitetaghavingaredsquarewith

“DoNotOperate”writteninwhiteletters(RefertoAttachment–2).

4.4.5“DangerTag”shallbewhitetaghavingablacksquarewithared

ovalinwhich“Danger”writteninwhiteletters(RefertoAttachment

–2).

4.4.6“CautionTag”shallbeyellowtaghavingablackrectanglewith

“Caution”writteninyellowletters(RefertoAttachment–2).

4.4.7Theinstallationandremovaloftagsisrestrictedto

operations/productionpersonnel,andtheyshallonlybeinstalledor

removedbyorundertheauthorityofthepersonhavingimmediate

supervisionovertheequipmentorsystembeingtagged.

4.4.8Tagsshallbedatedandsignedinthedesignatedplacespriorto

mentastowhyequipmentisnottobeoperated

shallbenotedondangertags.

4.4.9Specialinstructionscoveringoperationofequipmentistobenoted

onreversideofthe“Caution”nstructionsmayrelate

pacelimitations,

notationoncardmaysimplyrefertospecialinstructionsobtainable

fromsupervision.

4.5Accidentpreventiontags:

4.5.1PlacementofTags

4.5.1.1AllCautionorDangertagsshallbenumbered.

4.5.1.2Aparateinformationcard(orlogsheet)containing

thefollowinginformationshallbecompletedforeach

situationinvolvingtheplacementoftags:

•Identityoftheequipmentorfacilitybeing

tagged.

•Purpoofthetagandpertinentprecautionary

information.

•Dateandnumbertag.

•Nameofsupervisororderingplacementand

nameandsignatureofpersonplacingthetag.

4.5.2ControlandReview

4.5.2.1Informationconcerningthetemporarytagsshallbe

maintainedattheappropriatecontrolroomoroutside

workshelter.

4.5.2.2Allactivetemporarycautionanddangertagsshallbe

reviewedweeklybyshiftpersonnelandshallinclude:

•Verificationthatcautiontagsareinplaceand

theneedisstillvalid.

•Theauthorizingsupervisorand/orappropriate

staffmemberisnotifiedwhenataghasbeenin

placemorethan2months.

4.5.3Removal

4.5.3.1Tagsshouldberemovedbyoperation/production

personnelwhentheneedisnolongerdeemed

pertinentbytheoperationssupervisor.

4.5.3.2Removalofthetagshallbedocumentedonthesame

card/logaswasudforrecordingtheinitial

information.
