Passivepedestriansafetymeasuresinvolvevehiclestructures(,

bumper)thatexpandduringcollisioninordertominimizeimpactofthe

pedestrianlegorheadhittingthevehicle.

Forexample,Mercedes-Benzintroducedtheactivebonnetasstandardforthe

newE-Class(2009).Thesystemincludesthreeimpactnsorsinthefront

ctionaswellasspecialbonnethingespretensionedbypowerfulsprings.

Uponimpactwithapedestrian,therearctionofthebonnetispushed

upwardsby50millimetresinafractionofacond,thunlargingthe

temisreversibleandcanberetmanuallybythe
