freedomleftyoubatteredbythestormsofpercutionandstaggeredbythewindsofpolicebrutality.

uetoworkwiththefaiththatunearned

sufferingisredemptive.

GobacktoMississippi,gobacktoAlabama,gobacktoSouthCarolina,gobacktoGeorgia,go

backtoLouisiana,gobacktotheslumsandghettosofournortherncities,knowingthatsomehowthis

otwallowinthevalleyofdespair.

Isaytoyoutoday,myfriends,soeventhoughwefacethedifficultiesoftodayandtomorrow,Istill

reamdeeplyrootedintheAmericandream.

Ihaveadreamthatonedaythisnationwillriup,liveuptothetruemeaningofitscreed:“We

holdthetruthstobelf-evident;thatallmenarecreatedequal.”

IhaveadreamthatonedayontheredhillsofGeorgiathesonsofformerslavesandthesonsof

formerslave-ownerswillbeabletositdowntogetheratthetableofbrotherhood.

IhaveadreamthatonedayeventhestateofMississippi,astateswelteringwiththeheatof

injustice,swelteringwiththeheatofoppression,willbetransformedintoanoasisoffreedomand

justice.

Ihaveadreamthatmyfourchildrenwillonedayliveinanationwheretheywillnotbejudgedby

thecoloriftheirskinbutbythecontentoftheircharacter.

Ihaveadreamtoday.

IhaveadreamthatonedaydowninAlabamawithitsgovernorhavinghislipsdrippingwiththe

wordsofinterpositionandnullification,onedayrightdowninAlabamalittleblackboysandblackgirls

willbeabletojoinhandswithlittlewhiteboysandwhitegirlsassistersandbrothers.
