hope,thebeliefthatwhileeachofuswillpursueourownindividualdreams,weareanAmericanfamilyand

weriorfalltogetherasonenationandasonepeople.

Tonight,inthilection,you,theAmericanpeople,remindedusthatwhileourroadhasbeenhard,whileour

journeyhasbeenlong,wehavepickedourlvesup,wehavefoughtourwayback,andweknowinour

heartsthatfortheUnitedStatesofAmericathebestisyettocome.

IwanttothankeveryAmericanwhoparticipatedinthilection,whetheryouvotedfortheveryfirsttimeor

ay,ryoupoundedthepavementor

pickedupthephone,whetheryouheldanObamasignoraRomneysign,youmadeyourvoiceheardand

youmadeadifference.

decisionsasacountry,itnecessarilystirspassions,stirsupcontroversy.

canneverforgetthataswespeakpeopleindistantnationsareriskingtheirlivesrightnowjustforachance

toargueabouttheissuesthatmatter,thechancetocasttheirballotslikewedidtoday.

Butdespiteallourdifferences,mostofussharecertainhopesforAmerica’ourkidsto

growuprythatlivesup

toitslegacyasthegloballeaderintechnologyanddiscoveryandinnovation,withallthegoodjobsandnew

businessthatfollow.

WewantourchildrentoliveinanAmericathatisn’tburdenedbydebt,thatisn’tweakenedbyinequality,

thatisn’topassonacountrythat’ssafe

andrespectedandadmiredaroundtheworld,anationthatisdefendedbythestrongestmilitaryonearthand

thebesttroopsthis–oacountrythatmoveswithconfidencebeyond

thistimeofwar,toshapeapeacethatisbuiltonthepromioffreedomanddignityforeveryhumanbeing.

WebelieveinagenerousAmerica,inacompassionateAmerica,inatolerantAmerica,opentothedreamsof

Thiscountryhasmorewealththananynation,butthat’themostpowerful

militaryinhistory,butthat’versity,ourculturearealltheenvyofthe

world,butthat’snotwhatkeepstheworldcomingtoourshores.

WhatmakesAmericaex

beliefthatourdestinyisshared;thatthiscountryonlyworkswhenweacceptcertainobligationstoone

edomwhichsomanyAmericanshavefoughtforanddiedforcome

IamhopefultonightbecauI’veenthespiritatworkinAmerica.I’veenitinthefamilybusiness

whoownerswouldrathercuttheirownpaythanlayofftheirneighbors,andintheworkerswhowould

rathercutbacktheirhoursthaneafriendloajob.I’veenitinthesoldierswhoreenlistafterlosinga

limbandinthoSEALswhochargedupthestairsintodarknessanddangerbecautheyknewtherewasa

buddybehindthemwatchingtheirback.

I’veenitontheshoresofNewJeryandNewYork,whereleadersfromeverypartyandlevelof

governmenthavesweptasidetheirdifferencestohelpacommunityrebuildfromthewreckageofaterrible

wjusttheotherday,inMentor,Ohio,whereafathertoldthestoryofhis8-year-olddaughter,

wholongbattlewithleukemianearlycosttheirfamilyeverythinghaditnotbeenforhealthcarereform

passingjustafewmonthsbeforetheinsurancecompanywasabouttostoppayingforhercare.

Ihadanopportunitytonotjusttalktothefather,nhespoke

tothecrowdlisteningtothatfather’sstory,everyparentinthatroomhadtearsintheireyes,becauwe

owthateveryAmericanwantsherfuturetobejustasbright.

That’’sthecountryI’msoproudtoleadasyourpresident.

Andtonight,despiteallthehardshipwe’vebeenthrough,despiteallthefrustrationsofWashington,I’ve

kyouto

sustainthathope.I’mnottalkingaboutblindoptimism,thekindofhopethatjustignorestheenormityofthe

tasksaheadortheroadblocksthatstandinourpath.I’mnottalkingaboutthewishfulidealismthatallowsus

tojustsitonthesidelinesorshirkfromafight.

Ihavealwaysbelievedthathopeisthatstubbornthinginsideusthatinsists,despitealltheevidencetothe

contrary,thatsomethingbetterawaitsussolongaswehavethecouragetokeepreaching,tokeepworking,

tokeepfighting.

America,Ibelievewecanbuildontheprogresswe’vemadeandcontinuetofightfornewjobsandnew

vewecankeepthepromiofourfounders,the

ideathatifyou’rewillingtoworkhard,itdoesn’tmatterwhoyouareorwhereyoucomefromorwhatyou

n’tmatterwhetheryou’reblackorwhiteorHispanicorAsianorNative

Americanoryoungoroldorrichorpoor,able,disabled,gayorstraight,youcanmakeithereinAmericaif

you’rewillingtotry.
