usadirectconqueneeofthebalaneebetweenhydrogenbonding
effectsandthevanderWaalsdispersionforces[558]inwater;hydrogenbonding
erpressures(andden
sities),thebalaneebetweenhydrogenbondingeffectsandthevanderWaals
dispersionforcesistippedinfavorofthedispersionforcesandtheremaining
hydrogenbondsarestrongerduetotheclorproximityofthe
contributingoxygenatoms[655].Viscosity,then,increaswithpressure.
Thedashedline(opposite)indicatestheviscosityminima.
Thevariationofviscositywithpressureandtemperaturehasbeenudavidenee
thattheviscosityisdeterminedmorebytheextentofhydrogenbondingratherthan
hydrogenbondingstrength.
Self-diffusionisalsoaffectedbypressurewhere(atlowtemperatures)boththe
translationalandrotationalmotionofwateranomalouslyincreaasthe
pressureincreas.
