张宪省1982年,张宪省在山东农业大学农学专业获得学士学位。
1988年,在山东农业大学植物生理学专业获得硕士学位。
1990年,受美国植物发育分子生物学家O'Neill教授的邀请,由美国资助,在美国加州大学戴维斯分校植物系做访问学者(至1993年),从事植物分子生物学研究。
1997年,在中国农业大学获得植物生理学博士学位。
1997年,先后任基础部副主任、生命科学学院院长(至1999年)。
2000年,在美国康奈尔大学做高级访问学者。
2003年,在新加坡国立大学进行合作研究。
1999年12月,担任山东农业大学党委常委、副校长(至2016年11月) 。同年入选国家百千万人才工程第一、二层次人选。
2007年,被科技部聘为国家重大科学计划项目(973项目)首席科学家。
2008年,被农业部聘为国家转基因新品种培育重大课题主持人。
2016年10月,入选山东省泰山学者攀登计划专家。11月,担任山东农业大学校长。
2018年3月,担任第十三届全国人民代表大会代表。
现任作物生物学国家重点实验室主任,《Plant Cell Reports》副主编、《植物学报》和《遗传》编委。

• 开设课程
截至2016年,张宪省先后在山东农业大学开设《植物生物学》、《生命科学研究进展》、《植物发育生物学》、《发育生物学专题讨论》等理论课程,和《生物科学基础实验》、《细胞生物学实验》、《基因工程实验技术》等实验课程。
• 学科建设
截至2016年,张宪省先后组织创建了《生物技术》和《生物工程》两个本科专业,植物细胞工程实验室、基因工程实验室、植物生物学实验室三个本科教学实验室。
• 教学改革
截至2016年,张宪省主持、参加教学改革研究项目16项,发表教学研究论文55篇,他主持教学改革,打破本科教学实验室依附于教研室,实验教学附属于理论教学的传统实验教学模式,打破学科界限,对大生物学实验室进行系统设计,组建并成功申报了农业生物学国家级实验教学示范中心。同时进一步更新实验项目,改革实验内容,改进实验教学方法,完善管理制度,规范教学管理,显著改善和优化了实验教学条件和环境,为提升教学水平、提高教学质量提供了坚实平台和有力保障。在教学改革中,他亲自参加《植物生物学》及其实践教学环节,带领课程组就教学内容、教学手段等方面开展改革,主编出版了普通高等教育“十五”国家级规划教材《植物学》(面向21世纪课程教材),并获2005年度全国高等农业院校优秀教材奖,2008年山东省高等学校优秀教材一等奖。
• 指导学生
截至2015年,张宪省指导的本科生、硕士生、博士生的学位毕业论文有十余篇获得山东省优秀学位论文奖。

2014年:依托国家级实验教学示范中心,构建农科类“多维度”实验教学模式,山东省教研项目一等奖。
