Thus,thetypicalcourtcabeginsinatrialcourt-acourtofgeneraljurisdiction-inthestateorfederalsystem.Mostcasgonofurtherthanthetrialcourt:forexample,thecriminaldefendantisconvictedandntencedbythecourtandthecaends,thepersonalinjurysuitresultsinajudgmentbyatrialcourt(oranout-of-courtttlementbytheparties)andthepartiesleavethecourtsystem.Burtsometimesthelosingpartyatthetrialcourtcarenoughaboutthecathatthematterdoesnotendthere.Inthecas,the'lor'atthetrialcourtmayappealtothenexthighercourt.
