ThecaptionedgoodsyoushippedperS.S.“YellowRiver”onMay14arrivedhereyesterday.
Onexamination,wehavefoundthatmanyofthewingmachinesareverelydamaged,thoughthecasthemlvesshownotraceofdamage.
Consideringthisdamagewasduetotheroughhandlingbythesteamshipcompany,weclaimedonthemforrecoveryoftheloss;butaninvestigationmadebythesurveyorhasrevealedthefactthatthedamageisattributabletoimproperpacking.Forfurtherparticulars,wereferyoutothesurveyor’sreportenclod.
Wearetherefore,compelledtoclaimonyoutocompensateusfortheloss,$27,500,whichwehavesustainedbythedamagetothegoods.
Wetrustthatyouwillbekindenoughtoacceptthisclaimanddeductthesumclaimedtheamountofyounextinvoicetous.
